A FISHY REUNION

Receiving their art degrees from Mercyhurst College in 1976, business owners and GOFISH artists Elisa Guida and Jay Scalise thought it would be fun to collaborate on the GOFISH project, along with their spouses Ed Saloum and Darby Scalise.

After several brainstorming meetings, we agreed on the festive Mardi Gras fish. "les fishtivities du Mardi Gras" is adorned with feathers, beads, and musical instruments.

A closer look reveals a riverboat scene in one eye rendered by Jay Scalise and a lamppost scene in the other eye, painted by Ed Saloum. We wanted to caputure the "festivities" that one would experience during Mardi Gras. Elisa Guida and Darby Scalise created the mask with over 500 feathers. They also fine tuned the design, using several peacock feathers to accent the fish. A glow in the dark mardi gras necklace also accompanies the fish. The colorful Mardi Gras beads, adorned on the musical instruments are souvenirs for the children to keep.

We enjoyed rekindling our creative energies as if it were 25 years ago.
